It's been a long time since I did any oil painting, so here is my latest piece! This was on and off for a while, even now it isn't finished. I am waiting for it to dry so I can start working into her hair and skin with my karisma pencils.

I've been a designer at MBL now for 7 months and haven't posted much of my past and present work. Me and my sister Michelle have achieved a lot here, from the look and upkeep of www.bee.com to the rebrand of the bee.com shop in the Manchester Arndale centre. The shop being our biggest achievement here, it was a lot of hard work but definatley worth it :)

Haven't posted in a long time now! Its not that I have neglected my artistic skills, I have just been so busy. But I have some great news.... I am finally putting my B A Hons to use! I have a job working as a Creative Designer for a web company in Leyland, Preston. It's great :D

Here is an illustration I have been working on in work, it was mainly to test my skills in Illustrator because I haven't used it for so long.

Catalogue Options

For my final year at uni our year are getting a catalogue made which will feature work from each student. We can either design an image or use one of our favourite projects that we have completed during the year. Personally I think that my strongest project of the year was my Converse animation so I drawn a new image to front the project. I done two slightly different illustrations but cannot decide between the two?

Healthy Balance

I've only got a couple of week's left in uni now so I have been working on my portfolio. I realised last week that I didn't have as many complete projects as I'd like so I done something that surprised myself and designed and finished an interactive animation in two days! The piece is for a Sainsbury's project, to give information on achieving a healthy balance. Here are the screen shots, I hope they demonstrate how it works.

Dissertation Printed! Yey!

Got my dissertation back today! All printed and ready to hand in to uni tomorrow! There are a few things I am not too happy with though, like some of my images are a bit pixelated and my font is a bit too big. It was my first time in using InDesign so all in all I think it looks good :).

Well I've been so busy with my dissertation, I haven't sketched for a long time, so I done a quick sketch before, just to keep it going. It's me walking my dog Honey. I've already done one of these but I often flutter between two different drawing styles, as you might have noticed. I usually use this style for older characters. Like my Topshop project characters, they were aimed at an older audience and are suppost to be older themselves, whereas my Christmas card design is an illustration of a little girl, so she has bigger features and such. Anyway here is the sketch which I will colour when I eventually have time.

Inspirational Artists

I had a meeting with an external examiner in university yesterday, to discus my portfolio and the direction that I want to go in. He was very helpful and said that he liked my drawing style! He gave me some artists and animations for inspiration. One was Tex Avery's 'Red Hot Riding Hood' animation which I loved!!! I am surprised that I never came across this myself!

Avery also created Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny and Droopy the dog! All which I loved when I was younger.

Another artist he recommended to me was Mary Blair, who is famously known for her concept art for Disney features such as Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella and Peter Pan.

I particularly love the Alice in Wonderland artwork!

Well I have now finished my dissertation! It's been a long slog, but I'm finally onto the best bit, Designing the page layout!!! I wanted to put some of my own drawing into my dissertation so I drawn Batman for the front cover (well It's a re-creation of one of Jim Lee's illustrations, which I will be sure to reference in my bibliography). I have been sketching a lot lately, trying to figure out my own style. So I scanned some of my sketches in and played around with them on Photoshop.....

This was just a quick illustration of me and my cocker spaniel, Honey. I like using paper textures behind my drawings.
Another with a paper texture, I reduced the opacity on the Croc so that the texture shows through.....
On many of my illustrations I also change the outline colours, I think it just takes the "harshness" away. I should really do the same with these illustrations but I was to eager to get them coloured I just couldn't be bothered.

Fashion Project

These are the finished illustrations for a project on fashion. The project asked that I create a series of illustrations for a window display for either Topshop, Gap or Selfridges. I chose Topshop and went with the theme of Woodland creatures. I really enjoyed this project because it allowed me to just do what I wanted, and it was quite good playing around with different outfits. I also entered these illustrations for a competition.

Level 3 University 'Lush Project'

For one of my project I chose to create an interactive piece to advertise certain products from the cosmetic shop 'Lush'. I chose the cleanser 'Ultrabland' and the shaving cream 'Razorantium'. Unfortunately I could not upload the interactive pieces so have shown here the screenshots. The interaction pieces also have sound, when each box is rolled over with the cursor it would animate the instructions and make a noise.

Sci-Fi animation

Another project done for 2nd year uni. I had to choose a book genre and create a narrative. I chose Science Fiction. My animation tells the story of a boy who loves Sci-Fi books, as he's walking along he say's that he reads that much Science Fiction that it almost feels like he's in a book. A book-like-UFO then appears in the sky and beams up the young boy. I can't seen to upload my animation but here is a rough illustration of my character.

These were a set of illustrations done for a storytelling brief in my 2nd year. I decided to illustrate a section of the famous story 'Little Red Riding Hood'. The drawings show the part in the story were Little Red is on her way to her nan's, were she is greeted by Mr Wolf.

I done this Illustration for Halloween.

These illustrations are from my 2nd year University. I was asked to create a superhero so this was my take, 'Green Girl' her mission? to clean the earth.
This is something I did for fun. I make plushies in my spare time, I really liked this Milk so took a photo and accompanied it with some illustrations in Photoshop.
